The development and abundance of geographic data means that it is essential to fully grasp the principles of geomatics (acquisition, processing, analysis and dissemination of geographic information) in order to model and represent this information in a way that is accessible and interpretable.

Thanks to the tools of 3D reconstruction, cartography, remote sensing and webmapping, professionals trained in these techniques can address issues in a wide range of fields, including regional planning, the environment, risk management, health, transport, etc.

This course offers 2 specialisations. Students acquire a shared foundation in the fundamentals of geomatics (cartography, databases, GIS, remote sensing, webmapping, etc.) and environmental sciences, focusing on the main planning and development issues. They then go on to study one of the 2 specialities, either to develop their skills in ‘Geomatics and the Environment’, or to acquire the necessary technical skills in ‘Imagery’.

The ‘Geomatics and the Environment’ specialisation combines specialisation in GIS and cartography with geographical reflection on the environment. It meets the demands of companies in the sector: autonomy in GIS, expertise in graphic representations, ability to manage GIS or cartographic projects and expertise in putting geographic information online. It trains professionals capable of adapting to all areas of geomatics (energy, transport, land management, security, etc.).

The ‘Geomatics and the Environment’ specialisation opens up the possibility of a work-study programme.

Offered on a full-time basis only, the ‘Imagery’ specialisation is dedicated to terrestrial, aerial or space imagery and laser acquisition, for the 3D reconstruction of multiple environments on the one hand and the use of remote sensing methods on the other. This means that students are able to meet the needs of public and private organisations for expertise in systems for acquiring and using images and point clouds, and for rendering them in qualified models. They are thus able to manage photogrammetry, remote sensing and photo-interpretation projects.

The course is based on the flagship subjects of Geomatics and the Environment at ENSG and Paris1. It has been recognised in many professional fields for over 10 years, by major transport, construction, planning and security companies, as well as by local authorities and start-ups working on the development of renewable energies. 95% of students are hired in their field of expertise or continue their studies.

The course offers a wide range of career opportunities, including:

• assistant, project manager in the fields of environmental protection and management, environmental information and communication;
• geographic data manager or data dissemination manager, project manager for a GIS centre; cartographic production monitoring manager, data acquisition manager, image processing chain monitoring manager;
• assistant to the imaging project manager, photogrammetry project manager.
