This course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of all areas of geomatics by combining them with computer science :

• geographical data acquisition methods and techniques
• modelling and analysis of spatial information
• visualisation of localised data.

Its aim is to train students for the Master 2 course in geomatics offered by the Université Gustave Eiffel and the ENSG :

• Information Systems Technologies (TSI)
• Geographic Information: Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing (IGAST).

Courses

Targeted expertise and skills

By the end of the course, students will have acquired general knowledge in geomatics :

• Computer science: algorithms, practical programming (Python), object-oriented language (Java), agile methods, etc.
• Geographic data acquisition techniques: geodesy, topometry, photogrammetry, remote sensing, etc.
• Spatial data modelling and analysis methods: spatial analysis, statistics, databases, geographic information systems, etc.
• Visualisation tools for localised data: cartography, webmapping, etc.

Curriculum

The courses are conducted by lecturers and teacher-researchers from ENSG, IGN and the professional world.

The course culminates in a multidisciplinary internship of at least 12 weeks between June and September.

Course location

Most of the Master 1 Geomatics courses are taught on the ENSG's premises over the course of an academic year. They consist of theoretical and practical teaching (lectures, practical work, supervised assignments) over a period of approximately 600 hours. A long project (100 hours), commissioned by companies or research organisations, supplements this traditional teaching.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to enrol on the Master 1 Geomatics programme must have a bachelor's degree or a diploma of at least equivalent level:

• Students from scientific backgrounds (bachelor's degrees in mathematics, computer science, earth sciences, etc.) who are motivated by the applied aspects of these disciplines and who have an interest in issues involving spatial data;
• Students from geography bachelor's degrees, as well as courses related to spatial planning (urban planning, architecture, etc.), with skills in computer science and data analysis;
• Students from professional geomatics degrees with very good results, particularly in theoretical subjects, and with a career plan that justifies further study.

Procedure

Applicants are recruited based on an application and an interview with an examination board.

Applications are managed via the Mon Master (excluding the Campus France procedure).

Tuition fees are payable to the Gustave Eiffel University.

In the second year of the master’s course, students can choose one of the two specialisations in geomatics :

• Information Systems Technologies (IST) for training in information systems including spatial data;
• Geographic Information: Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing (IGAST) for a specialisation in remote sensing and analysis of geographic data.
