The objective of the Carthagéo Master 2 is to train managers in geomatics and geolocation data analysis. Using a range of mathematical, statistical and computer methods, students acquire the ability to model, analyse and map spatial organisations and their dynamics. The teaching combines methodological approaches with professional cartographic production techniques: courses in GIS, database modelling, programming and web-mapping, enabling these methods to be used on practical issues in the fields of the environment, sustainable cities, territorial management, etc.

The master’s programme is designed to lead to professional qualifications

The Carthagéo Master 2 offers two options:

• Option 1 is aimed at students who have studied geography or human and social sciences (history, sociology, environment, planning, etc.);
• Option 2 is aimed at students who have completed a course in engineering sciences, or a university course in computer science or mathematics. Candidates will follow a master's course more geared towards digital development for geomatics.

A teaching team made up of lecturers and researchers from the University and engineers and researchers from the ENSG and the IGN provides the themes and digital aspects of geomatics. The team also relies on professionals, who are involved both in courses and in monitoring projects.

One of the special features of the Carthagéo Master 2 programme is that it combines the modelling and representation of geographic information with spatial analysis methods.

As the production of geolocalised data soars, it is more necessary than ever to master all the techniques and models that enable formal structures to be applied to these systems. These methods come into play at several stages in the process, from data modelling to knowledge mining and the dissemination of analyses via editorial cartography or webmapping.
The teaching combines methodological and technical approaches. It includes courses in GIS, database modelling and programming, enabling these methods to be applied to issues relating to land-use planning, transport, the environment, safety, health, and many more.
 

Entry requirements

The Carthageo Master's degree comprises 2 options and entry levels :

Option 1 (thematic):

Selection at L3 level (B's degree year 3) through a cartography test and a statistics test. This option is aimed at students with a degree in social sciences (history, sociology, environment, planning, etc.), environment, planning, etc.). Successful candidates will be admitted to the M1 in Geography at one of the partner universities, followed by the Carthagéo M2.

Option 2 (numerical) :

Students with 4 years of higher education or 2nd year engineers are selected based on their academic record. It is aimed at students who  have completed a course in Engineering Sciences or have completed a university course in computer science or mathematics or mathematics who already have an IT background (GIS software, programming, etc.). (GIS software and programming, etc.).

Students will take the Carthagéo Master's degree with a strong focus on digital development for geomatics.
